TAICHUNG, TAIWAN (TraNews) – Cross-Harbor Tunnel is the first tunnel in Hong Kong built under water, connecting Kowloon Peninsula (Hung Hom) and Hong Kong Island (Causeway Bay). The 1.86-km long underwater tunnel with four tracks was officially opened for traffic in 1972.

The tunnel crossing Victoria Harbor has a total of 16 toll booths, and the toll charge ranges between HK$8 ~$30 according to the categories of vehicles. The toll plaza is located at the Hung Hom northern end of the tunnel while the southern end of the tunnel is situated on Kellet Island.

Cross-Harbor Tunnel was originally administered by the Cross-Harbor Tunnel Company Ltd. until the end of August, 1999, when the operation franchise agreement expired. It is currently managed by the Government of Hong Kong. Comparing to other road tunnels, the Eastern Harbor Crossing and Western Harbor Crossing, the toll for crossing the Cross-Harbor Tunnel is more reasonable.
